Popular Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Nkechi Blessing Sunday has sparked intense conversations online after openly expressing frustration over her movie production journey, revealing massive financial losses and a possible decision to step away from producing films entirely.
Taking to her Instagram page, the outspoken actress disclosed that she has invested over ₦80 million into producing movies since September, yet the returns have been shockingly low. According to her, despite the huge capital outlay, she has not been able to recover even ₦1 million, a reality she described as emotionally draining and discouraging.
In a strongly worded post written partly in Pidgin English, Nkechi Blessing did not hold back her disappointment with the current state of movie viewership and audience support. She suggested that many viewers only pay attention to films that receive excessive hype, leaving other well-produced projects struggling to gain traction.
“I give up.
I no do again, abeg.
I have spent over 80 million naira producing movies since September, and I haven’t received even one million back.
I no do again abeg.
Make I go back to flying around the world.
As una no gree watch film if the Movie is not over hyped, I don try.
The ones we were there for self no even fit help.
I am done abeg!”
The actress’s emotional outburst has reignited conversations around the financial realities of Nollywood, especially for independent producers who often rely on personal funds without guaranteed returns. Many fans and colleagues have since flooded her comment section with messages of support, encouragement, and sympathy, while others debated the challenges of digital distribution, marketing, and audience behavior in Nigeria’s movie industry.
Nkechi Blessing, known for her bold personality and strong on-screen presence, has successfully built a brand beyond acting, frequently traveling and showcasing a luxurious lifestyle. Her statement about “going back to flying around the world” suggests she may now prioritize personal enjoyment and other ventures over film production.
While it remains unclear whether this decision is final, her revelation has shed light on the harsh economic pressures faced by Nollywood filmmakers, even those with star power. For now, fans can only wait to see if Nkechi Blessing truly walks away from producing movies or if this marks a temporary pause born out of frustration.
