Veteran music producer and filmmaker Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, has opened up about his early struggles in the music industry and the fallout that eventually strained his relationship with Don Jazzy and D’Banj.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Echoroom show, JJC gave a candid account of how trust, expectations, and misunderstandings led to a major rift among the once-close collaborators.
JJC revealed that his journey with Don Jazzy, D’Banj, Ayo Shonaiya, and DJ Abbas began during their time running a UK-based television station.
At the time, he was eager to establish himself in the Nigerian music industry and believed that aligning with familiar faces would help him navigate the space more easily.
According to him, Kaz was instrumental in introducing him to Don Jazzy, while Ayo Shonaiya and DJ Abbas were also part of the circle.
The producer explained that he approached the relationship with genuine intentions, hoping for mentorship, guidance, and mutual growth.
However, he later discovered that some decisions were being made behind his back. JJC claimed he was shocked when fellow artist Rugged Man informed him that D’Banj had allegedly spoken negatively about him.
Reflecting on the accusations, JJC insisted he never cheated or exploited anyone financially. He firmly denied claims that he withheld earnings or took advantage of upcoming artists. “I am not paying them and cheating them. I’m not,” he said.
“Nobody knows you, bro. I’m the one taking you to shows, buying your clothes, your food, giving you a place to stay. How could I be cheating you when you haven’t even made money?”
JJC stressed that he played a significant role in promoting Don Jazzy and D’Banj during their early days, using his own resources to support them before fame and commercial success arrived.
Despite this, he felt he was unfairly blamed for issues that were beyond his control, adding that the situation left him deeply disappointed.
The filmmaker also hinted that miscommunication and external influences contributed to the breakdown of trust among them.
While he did not go into full details about every individual involved, he acknowledged that the experience taught him hard lessons about loyalty and the complexities of business relationships in the entertainment industry.
JJC’s revelations have since sparked conversations online, with fans revisiting the early days of Mo’Hits Records and the foundations of modern Nigerian pop music.
While Don Jazzy and D’Banj have gone on to achieve massive success individually, JJC’s account offers a rare glimpse into the personal and professional challenges that shaped their journeys.
Despite the fallout, JJC appeared reflective rather than bitter, focusing on the lessons learned rather than dwelling on resentment.
