Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, widely known as Winners Chapel, has expressed strong support for the recent United States military operation against terrorist camps in Nigeria.

According to reports, the US launched at least 12 Tomahawk missiles on Christmas night, targeting positions in Sokoto State.

This coordinated operation, conducted alongside the Nigerian government under President Donald Trump, has raised hopes for a significant reduction in the country’s long-standing security challenges.

Speaking on Sunday, Oyedepo thanked God for what he described as a divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs. He emphasized that sponsors of terrorism in the country are now hiding, marking a major shift from decades of unchecked violence.

“We must thank God for this sudden turnaround in Nigeria. For nearly 20 years, the persecutors have acted freely, but now they are feeling the heat,” the cleric said.

Bishop Oyedepo credited a midnight prayer led by the Holy Spirit for the successful outcome of the military operation.

He said the prayer had directly influenced events on the ground, ensuring that those responsible for causing grief and destruction would now face the consequences of their actions.

“Judgment has begun. God has intervened in Nigeria’s affairs. All those backing these criminals are now hiding, and fire is burning in their camps. For the first time, the oppressors are becoming the oppressed,” he added.

The US airstrikes come amid ongoing counterterrorism efforts in Nigeria, including renewed surveillance of the Sambisa Forest. Security experts have described the operation as a strategic move to weaken terrorist networks and reduce the frequency of attacks on civilians.

While the strikes are part of an international effort, Nigerian authorities have maintained that the collaboration is designed to enhance national security and restore stability in vulnerable regions.

Residents of Sokoto, however, were initially alarmed when the strikes occurred. Many reportedly thought the explosions were due to aircraft crashes, highlighting the scale and intensity of the attacks.

Despite the initial shock, community leaders and religious figures have welcomed the intervention, noting that it signals a new phase in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

Bishop Oyedepo’s comments reflect widespread relief and optimism that coordinated efforts between international allies and Nigerian authorities can curb the activities of violent groups.

For years, terrorist organizations operated with relative impunity, exploiting gaps in security infrastructure and sowing fear among local communities.

The recent airstrikes, combined with targeted prayers and national vigilance, are seen as a turning point in the struggle to restore peace and security.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with insecurity, religious and civic leaders are calling for sustained international cooperation, effective intelligence gathering, and community engagement to ensure that the gains from such interventions are not temporary.

The Bishop’s statement underscores the belief that divine guidance, combined with practical security measures, can bring lasting change to a nation long plagued by violence.
