Senior Pastor Chris Okafor has finally reacted to the growing controversy trailing viral audio recordings released by social media activist and critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM). The audios, which have circulated widely across social media platforms, feature a woman who claims to be the cleric’s daughter and makes what many have described as heavy and damaging allegations against the Lagos-based pastor.

The recordings have triggered intense online debate, with critics demanding clarity and accountability, while supporters of the pastor describe the development as a coordinated attack on the Christian faith and its leadership.

During a recent church service, Pastor Okafor addressed the issue indirectly without responding to the specific claims raised in the audio recordings. Instead, he framed the situation as a calculated spiritual assault targeted at religious leaders, particularly those he described as innocent servants of God.

According to the senior pastor, attacks on men of God go beyond personal criticism and are often strategic efforts aimed at destabilizing the spiritual lives of their followers.

“When you see a person attacking a man of God, that person is not just a human being, that person is a demon on assignment. When you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter. It is not just about the shepherd. It is also about the people that the shepherd carries,” Okafor stated.

He further warned his congregation that such attacks are not random but are meant to disconnect believers from their source of spiritual guidance and blessings. Pastor Okafor emphasized that pastors who are “genuinely innocent” function as spiritual channels through which divine help flows to members.

“Every time you see a man of God who is genuinely innocent and they’re persecuting, it’s not just an attack on him, it’s an attack on you [church members]. Number one, it is your blessing that is being attacked. Number two, it says the prophet is in their midst to help them. It is your help they are attacking….”

The controversy escalated after VeryDarkMan shared the audio clips, in which the alleged daughter spoke about family issues and personal grievances involving the cleric. While many Nigerians online have called for a direct and transparent response to the accusations, Pastor Okafor’s comments suggest he sees the saga as a test of faith rather than a matter for public or legal debate.

As the conversation continues to trend, opinions remain sharply divided between calls for accountability and unwavering spiritual loyalty.
