Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his intention to formally join the Accord Party by picking up his membership card on Wednesday in Osun State.
The award-winning singer made the disclosure on Tuesday via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, sparking conversations across social media and political circles.
Davido’s announcement comes shortly after his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, made a high-profile move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. Following the defection, the governor emerged as the Accord Party’s candidate for the Osun governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026.
In his post, Davido revealed that he would be visiting Imole House in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to officially receive his Accord Party membership card. He also hinted that the visit would be public, suggesting a show of solidarity with the party and its leadership.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO Tomorrow…..see you soon Accordingly,” the singer wrote.
The announcement has generated significant attention, given Davido’s influence as one of Africa’s biggest music exports and his long-standing association with Osun politics through his family. While Davido is primarily known for his music career, he has, over the years, shown open support for his uncle’s political ambitions, especially during election seasons.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent defection marked a major political shift in Osun State. Having governed under the PDP platform, his move to the Accord Party has been widely interpreted as a strategic decision ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race. The Accord Party, which has previously struggled to gain dominance in the state, is expected to receive a significant boost from the governor’s entry and the support of high-profile figures like Davido.
Political observers say Davido’s decision to formally register with the Accord Party could further energise the party’s base, particularly among young voters who see the music star as a cultural icon and voice of their generation. His influence on social media and popular culture places him in a unique position to shape political conversations beyond traditional campaign strategies.
Although Davido has not announced any plans to seek political office, his public alignment with the Accord Party reinforces his role as a prominent supporter of his uncle’s political journey. In previous election cycles, the singer actively campaigned, shared messages online, and mobilised supporters in Osun State and beyond.
Reactions to Davido’s announcement have been mixed, with fans expressing excitement over his visit to Osogbo, while political commentators debate the broader implications of celebrity involvement in Nigerian politics. Some see his move as a natural extension of family loyalty, while others view it as an example of how pop culture continues to intersect with governance and electoral processes in Nigeria.
Attention will be on Imole House in Osogbo, where Davido is expected to appear to collect his membership card. The visit is likely to attract supporters, party members, and curious onlookers eager to witness the moment.
For now, Davido’s message remains clear: he is ready to take a formal step in supporting the Accord Party as Osun State prepares for the 2026 governorship election.
