Nollywood cinema release Behind The Scenes has reached a major commercial milestone, grossing ₦512 million at the Nigerian box office to emerge as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 so far.
The film enjoyed early momentum following its advanced screenings on December 10 and 11, before its nationwide cinema release on December 12. Since then, it has recorded a steady surge in ticket sales across cinemas in Nigeria and Ghana, culminating in its latest box office achievement.
Confirming the feat, the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, announced the figures in a post shared on its official Instagram page on Monday. The company described the accomplishment as historic, attributing the success to strong audience turnout and sustained support across West Africa.
“And yet, another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love,” FilmOne said.
Beyond becoming the top-grossing Nollywood title of the year, Behind The Scenes has also set a new speed record. According to FilmOne, the movie is now the fastest Nollywood production to cross the ₦500 million mark at the box office, a benchmark that underscores its wide appeal and commercial strength.
“₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend,” the distributor stated.
FilmOne further highlighted that the film’s box office dominance reflects audience confidence in the project and its creative team, noting that the movie continues to draw large crowds weeks after its release.
“This is what belief looks like,” the distributor added, while confirming that Behind The Scenes remains in cinemas nationwide.
The movie tackles the socially relevant theme of black tax, a subject that resonates deeply with many African families. Through its storyline, the film explores financial pressure, expectations, and personal sacrifice within extended family structures, striking a chord with audiences and sparking conversations both online and offline.
While Funke Akindele plays a prominent role in the film, the story is led by actress Scarlet Gomez, whose performance anchors the emotional core of the narrative. The film boasts a robust ensemble cast featuring some of Nollywood’s most recognisable names, including Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, and Kamo State. Reality television stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki also make notable appearances, adding to the film’s wide appeal.
Prior to reaching the ₦512 million mark, Behind The Scenes had already made headlines earlier in its theatrical run. The film crossed ₦200 million in its opening weekend, becoming the first Nollywood movie of 2025 to achieve that feat.
At the time, FilmOne described the performance as the biggest opening weekend of the year, revealing that the movie had set multiple records simultaneously.
According to the distributor, the film was a five-time box office opening weekend record holder, including posting the highest weekend admissions recorded in 2025.
With its continued strong showing in cinemas, Behind The Scenes has not only defined the commercial landscape of Nollywood in 2025 but has also reinforced the growing box office power of Nigerian cinema, as audiences increasingly show up for stories that reflect their lived experiences.
