In Eruku, Kwara State, there are endless and wild celebrations across the Christ Apostolic Church community after the 38 worshippers abducted during a violent attack were announced free.
The joyous scenes followed a statement by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who attributed the successful rescue to the “hands-on approach” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his elation in a press release on November 23, saying, “The governor is excited to announce the freedom of 38 persons who were recently abducted … in an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Eruku.”
He gave special thanks to President Tinubu, saying the president “personally led the efforts” to secure their release.
President Tinubu, for his part, publicly reaffirmed his commitment to national security, writing: “Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”
The freed abductees were brought to the Kwara State Government House clinic for medical evaluation, where officials confirmed they were being treated for exhaustion and trauma.
Among them, Bamidele Emmanuel described the harrowing ordeal: “They surrounded the church. Three people were killed … they marched the victims deep into a forest … The experience was harrowing.”
Governor AbdulRazaq also extended his gratitude to multiple security agencies — including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police — for deploying tactical teams under the direction of the president. However, he cautioned that full celebrations would wait until other abductees, such as schoolgirls kidnapped in Kebbi State, are also safely rescued.
