Nigerian singer and songwriter, Omawumi Megbele, has opened up about her personal and professional relationships with two late music stars — rapper Dagrin and producer Dokta Frabz. The award-winning singer offered heartfelt reflections on her time with the two industry figures during a recent interview with media personality Jay On Air.

Years ago, rumours circulated that Omawumi was romantically involved with Dagrin, especially after their successful 2009 collaboration on the song ‘Thank God.’ Many fans speculated that their undeniable chemistry in the song and its video extended beyond the studio. However, Omawumi has now set the record straight, clarifying that her bond with the late rapper was purely platonic.

According to her, they shared a close working relationship and friendship built on mutual respect and creativity. She recalled fond memories of spending time with Dagrin and praised his talent and personality. “Dagrin was my guy, we used to hanged out together. He was a fantastic person,” she said, adding that the rapper had a special energy that drew people to him.

Omawumi explained that their connection stemmed from their shared passion for music and the respect they had for each other’s craft. She described Dagrin as a humble and hardworking artist who was always eager to learn and collaborate. His death in April 2010, after a tragic car accident, marked a painful loss to the Nigerian music industry, cutting short what many believed would have been an even more impactful career.

While clarifying that her relationship with Dagrin was not romantic, Omawumi revealed that she did have a romantic relationship with another beloved figure in the Nigerian music scene — the late producer Dokta Frabz. She spoke emotionally about their time together, describing him as a man whose love for music was infectious.

“I was drawn to Dokta Frabz because he such a lover of music. He was incredibly talented. He would look into my eyes while singing and I would be cheering. And because of that, I was always around him — in his studio. I met most of the music industry figures through Dokta Frabz. We actually dated,” Omawumi revealed.

Her description of Dokta Frabz painted a picture of a man deeply passionate about his craft and supportive of others. Through him, she got to know several key figures in the Nigerian music scene. Their relationship, according to her, was grounded in creativity, mutual admiration, and shared experiences in the music world.

Dokta Frabz, whose real name was Ayorinde Faboro, was one of Nigeria’s most respected producers. He worked with several big names in the industry before his untimely death in 2021. His passing left a void that many of his collaborators and fans still feel today.

Omawumi’s candid reflections on both Dagrin and Dokta Frabz reveal the deep emotional connections she shared with them — one rooted in friendship and the other in love. Both men, she said, played significant roles in shaping her journey in the Nigerian music industry.
