Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of terrorist attacks spreading across several parts of the country.
The music star, who rarely comments on national issues, took to his X page to warn that Nigeria’s future is at risk if young people continue to bear the brunt of insecurity.
Rema’s message was short, emotional and sharply directed at authorities. He wrote: “Until they protect the youths and allow them to grow into their full potential, Nigeria will never be truly great.”
The post, which has since triggered massive reactions online, came with a heartbreak emoji and the Nigerian flag, signalling his frustration over the continued violence.
His comment follows a disturbing spike in attacks recorded in Kebbi, Kwara and Niger States in recent days.
Several communities have reported killings, abductions and forced displacement, leaving residents terrified and prompting heightened security alerts nationwide.
Schools have also been targeted, prompting temporary closures, while worship centres and rural communities remain vulnerable to sudden raids.
The singer’s outcry reflects growing public tension as many Nigerians feel that the government is not doing enough to curb the worsening insecurity.
Rema noted that a nation that leaves its youths unprotected is preparing itself for long-term instability. According to him, the country cannot aspire to greatness when its young population – regarded as its greatest strength – lives in constant fear.
Security analysts have also warned that the pattern of recent attacks shows a worrying evolution in the tactics of armed groups, who now strike with more coordination and speed.
With children, students, and young adults often caught at the centre of these incidents, concerns about the psychological impact on the next generation are increasing.
Rema’s remarks surfaced just days after he was named on TIME’s 2025 Next 100 list, a recognition that celebrates emerging global leaders shaping the future. Many fans believe this gives additional weight to his comments, as he uses his platform to call attention to an issue affecting millions.
Social media users applauded the singer for speaking out, stressing that celebrities with large followings should also lend their voices to critical national matters.
Some urged the government to view the message as a wake-up call and intensify efforts to protect schools, communities and farmlands, while others demanded accountability from security agencies.
Across northern states, residents remain anxious as reports of fresh attacks continue to surface. In several affected communities, parents are afraid to send their children to school, students have been relocated, and economic activities have slowed dramatically.
Rema’s call for protection of the youths adds to the growing chorus of Nigerians demanding urgent and decisive action. As the nation searches for lasting solutions, many believe that investing in the safety and stability of young people is the first step toward rebuilding trust and securing Nigeria’s future.
