The ongoing efforts to secure the legacy of late Nigerian music star Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, have moved into a decisive phase as his widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, has formally activated legal processes to safeguard all assets tied to the artist’s name. Her recent actions mark a significant step toward ensuring that Mohbad’s estate is neither mismanaged nor wrongfully accessed by individuals without legitimate claims.

According to documents filed on November 19, 2025, at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, Omowunmi informed the Probate Registry that she has already completed and submitted the essential probate documents—Forms 5 and 6. These forms are central to the procedure for obtaining Letters of Administration, the legal instrument that authorizes specific people to manage the estate of a deceased person who did not leave a valid will.

By lodging these forms with the court, Omowunmi is not only declaring her intent to oversee the administration of Mohbad’s estate but is also placing legal boundaries around the process. The Probate Registry, by law, must verify rightful beneficiaries before granting access to the estate, and her submission effectively sets this verification process in motion.

A crucial detail in her filing is the reaffirmation of her status as Mohbad’s legally recognized wife and the mother of his only child, Master Liam Aloba. With the late singer having no other surviving offspring, Omowunmi is positioning herself and her son as the legitimate heirs—a fact that is already established under Nigerian inheritance laws but often requires documentation and confirmation in contentious or high-profile estates.

Beyond the court filings, Omowunmi has also taken proactive measures to prevent fraudulent claims. She noted that in November 2025, she ensured that public notices concerning the estate were published in two national newspapers. This is a mandatory step in many probate proceedings, intended to alert the public and give anyone who believes they have a lawful claim the opportunity to come forward. At the same time, it serves as a warning to impostors and opportunists commonly drawn to celebrity estates.

Her legal team emphasized that the notice filed at the registry must remain active until the administration process concludes. This means all parties must recognize the filing as part of the official record, and no decision concerning Mohbad’s property or assets can be made without regard to the information she has provided.

The court documents reinforce that both Mohbad’s wife and son are alive, present, and legally entitled to inherit the artist’s properties, royalties, and intellectual rights. As the legal process unfolds, Omowunmi’s current steps create a protective framework around Mohbad’s financial and artistic legacy—ensuring that the estate is managed correctly and that the benefits eventually due to his young son are preserved.

Her filings also underscore a broader message: that Mohbad’s legacy is not only musical but familial, and the legal system must now play its role in protecting what he left behind for his immediate family.
