Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDermott has shared a heartfelt message in celebration of her mother’s 72nd birthday, using the moment to reflect on life, gratitude and the difficult realities faced by many Nigerians.

The actress took to her Instagram page to post lovely photos of her mother, expressing deep appreciation to God for keeping her alive and healthy at such a significant age.

While celebrating, she noted that her joy was mixed with sober thoughts about the condition of her home country.

In her emotional tribute, Ufuoma revealed that her mother clocking 72 was a blessing she did not take for granted. She explained that many families are grieving, facing insecurity or dealing with the painful loss of loved ones, and not everyone gets the privilege of celebrating their parents at such an age.

Her words captured the tension between gratitude and concern: “My mum is 72. We’re very grateful. But at this time, I also look back at my Motherland and wonder: How many more will fall to insecurity? How many will make it to 72? How many will lose their kids? How many will have parents snatched? I really am grateful. I’m just wondering.”

The actress ended her post by wishing her mother a happy birthday and appreciating God for granting her another year.

Ufuoma’s reflection struck a chord with many of her followers, especially those who have lost parents or children to illness, insecurity or other unfortunate situations.

Her message highlighted the emotional weight many Nigerians carry as they navigate national challenges while trying to remain thankful for personal blessings.

Her tribute also sparked conversations online, with fans joining her in celebrating her mother while acknowledging the sad realities surrounding ageing and survival in Nigeria today.

Many praised Ufuoma for using a joyous moment to shine light on the pressing issues facing families across the country.

The celebration comes just weeks after several celebrities publicly honoured their parents. Actress Bakare Zainab recently praised her father, calling him her “hero” and appreciating him for his sacrifices and unwavering support.

Reality star Mercy Eke also celebrated her mother, describing her as her “dearest,” and thanked her for her strength, wisdom and love. Similarly, BBNaija’s Liquorose called her own mother “the best woman” and expressed deep admiration for her.

Meanwhile, Ufuoma herself has been open about her struggles in recent years. The actress previously revealed her battle with a life-threatening health condition. In 2023, she shared a testimony of how God saved her life and protected her family from the fear of losing her.

She later disclosed in a conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo that she had been diagnosed with the same chronic kidney disease that claimed her younger brother’s life.

Through it all, Ufuoma continues to express gratitude, strength and resilience. As she celebrates her mother’s 72nd birthday, her message serves as both a personal thanksgiving and a sobering reminder of the fragile state of many families in Nigeria.
