Former Skye Bank Plc chairman, Tunde Ayeni, has rejected what he described as “back-door overtures” from lawyer Adaobi Alagwu, who allegedly tried to settle their ongoing legal dispute privately.

In a statement on Monday, Ayeni expressed surprise at Alagwu’s attempt to resolve the matter quietly, given the intense public scrutiny and the reputational damage the controversy has caused him and his family.

He hinted that Alagwu’s sudden move may be linked to “personal reasons, including her reported forthcoming marriage,” but stressed that such factors do not influence his pursuit of justice.

“My primary concern remains the restoration of my battered reputation, which has been severely impacted by this controversy,” Ayeni said.

The businessman emphasised that only a transparent court process can fully address the allegations against him. He argued that a private settlement would diminish the seriousness of the claims and the harm inflicted on his reputation.

“Accepting a private settlement would undermine the seriousness of the accusations and the damage they have inflicted on my person, my family, and loved ones,” he added.

Ayeni also cautioned friends and associates against attempting to mediate on Alagwu’s behalf, describing such efforts as a personal insult. He insisted that Alagwu, her mother, and her family should only be engaged within the confines of the ongoing litigation.

Confirming that the case remains before a competent court, Ayeni said he is committed to testifying openly on November 25, 2025, and February 17, 2026.

He criticised Alagwu for reportedly avoiding customary court proceedings and urged her to appear and defend herself when the case resumes.

“I am a man of my own conviction and I trust the justice system to uphold the truth,” he said, dismissing claims that external influences are guiding his legal decisions.

Ayeni expressed confidence that the court process would restore his reputation and bring closure to what he called an unfortunate chapter of his life.

Separately, the Ayeni family confirmed that the long-standing paternity controversy involving Alagwu and her daughter, Omarosa, has been resolved. According to the family, all evidence presented absolved Ayeni of any paternal connection, bringing that part of the saga to a definitive close.
