The widow of late Liverpool star Diogo Jota, Rute, has shared an emotional tribute in honour of their daughter’s first birthday, months after the tragic accident that claimed the life of the Portuguese forward.

Jota died alongside his brother, Andre Silva, in a devastating car crash in July, leaving behind his wife and their three young children — two sons and a baby girl who has just celebrated her first birthday.

On Wednesday, Rute took to Instagram to commemorate the milestone with a touching post that included 16 photos capturing precious memories of their daughter’s first year. Out of the images, five featured Jota, reflecting the deep bond he shared with his family before his untimely passing.

The photo collection struck a chord with fans around the world who continue to mourn the footballer’s death.

One of the standout photos shows Rute and Jota in a serene family portrait, both dressed in soft pink outfits as they lovingly cradle their baby daughter.

Another touching shot captures Jota holding the wide-eyed infant close to his chest, while a separate photo shows the Liverpool forward gently carrying her out of the hospital in a baby carrier on the day she was born.

The tribute also included a moment from a family outing at a café, where Jota is seen beaming proudly as he holds his little girl.

One of the most emotional images in the collection shows the family together at Anfield during Liverpool’s Premier League victory celebrations last season — a reminder of happier days before tragedy struck.

Rute captioned the post with the simple but powerful phrase: “One whole year,” accompanied by a heart and a star emoji.

The message drew an outpouring of love and sympathy from fans, friends, and football lovers across the globe. One commenter wrote, “RIP. We miss and love him,” while another simply said, “Forever,” with several heart emojis expressing continued grief and affection.

Jota’s death was particularly heartbreaking as it came just two weeks after he and Rute tied the knot, sealing a longtime relationship that began in their youth.

The couple, who shared three children, had celebrated their wedding in Porto earlier in the year, unaware that tragedy was looming so close.

Shortly before his passing, Jota appeared in a light-hearted clip joking about the joys and pressures of becoming a new father again. In the now bittersweet video, the striker laughed about adjusting to life with a newborn, saying, “Each day is a new day.” The clip has since resurfaced, drawing even more emotional reactions from fans.

As the football world continues to remember Diogo Jota’s legacy both on and off the pitch, his widow’s tribute stands as a powerful reminder of love, loss, and resilience.

The first birthday of their daughter marks a bittersweet milestone — one filled with gratitude for her life but also the painful absence of a devoted father whose memory continues to live on in the hearts of millions.
