In a landmark move to promote fire safety awareness across Nigeria, music icon and humanitarian Innocent “2Face” Idibia has been officially appointed as the National Fire Safety Ambassador by the Federal Government.

The announcement was made on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week held at the Federal Fire Service Headquarters in Abuja.

The ceremony, themed “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality,” focused on raising awareness about the dangers of fire incidents and the urgent need for behavioural change among citizens.

Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi, made the announcement, emphasizing the crucial role of public engagement in reducing fire-related disasters.

Represented by Deputy Controller General Aliyu Tambari, Adeyemi underscored that fire incidents do not discriminate and can affect anyone at any time. “We must shift the mindset from indifference to responsibility. Fire disasters are not someone else’s problem; they are everyone’s concern,” he stated.

Special recognition was given to 2Face Idibia, whose widespread influence and visibility in Nigeria are expected to strengthen national campaigns on fire prevention.

The music superstar’s role as National Fire Safety Ambassador will include educating the public on preventive measures, encouraging safe practices in homes and workplaces, and inspiring a culture of safety among Nigerians.

Adeyemi added, “As a National Fire Safety Ambassador, we expect 2Face to inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety and to engage millions of Nigerians with the national safety agenda.”

2Face Idibia, who has consistently been involved in humanitarian efforts and advocacy work, expressed excitement over the appointment.

He highlighted the importance of public education in preventing avoidable tragedies. With his influence, the Federal Fire Service aims to reach diverse audiences, particularly youths and families, to instill a proactive approach toward fire safety.

The appointment comes at a time when fire incidents have been on the rise across Nigeria, causing both loss of lives and property.

By appointing a respected celebrity figure like 2Face, the government hopes to amplify its message and make fire safety a national priority. Public engagement, awareness campaigns, and celebrity endorsements are now seen as essential strategies in cultivating a culture of prevention and vigilance.

This strategic partnership between the Federal Fire Service and 2Face Idibia is poised to enhance awareness on fire hazards, encourage responsible behaviour, and ultimately reduce the incidence of fire-related disasters in Nigeria.

Citizens are encouraged to follow updates on fire safety initiatives through official channels and participate actively in nationwide campaigns aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
