Veteran Nollywood actor, Dele Odule, has shared his thoughts on the relevance of polygamy in Africa, asserting that Western culture can never erase the continent’s long-standing traditions.

Speaking in a recent interview, the respected actor maintained that being responsible and disciplined as a man is more important than conforming to Western ideals of monogamy.

Odule addressed recurring rumours about his private life, particularly claims about the number of children and wives he has.

He said many people twist his motivational posts into gossip, often for clout and social media attention. “At a time, people claimed I had 10 children with 10 women. I simply agreed; after all, it’s not a crime in Nigeria. If it’s a sin, I’ll face it when I get to heaven,” he said.

The veteran actor, known for his deep cultural values, further stated that there is nothing wrong with having more than one wife as long as a man is capable of managing his household and meeting his responsibilities. “Polygamy is part of African culture.

Western culture says one man, one wife, but we are Africans. The key is being responsible and disciplined,” he added.

Reflecting on his career journey and how he has navigated fame, Odule noted that fame in today’s social media era comes with a lot of challenges. He said he has learned to stay focused and avoid unnecessary public arguments or controversies.

“I have learnt not to talk too much or argue unnecessarily. If what’s being said doesn’t harm my career, I simply say, ‘I’ve heard you.’ As long as I’m not accused of any crime, I don’t take things to heart,” he said.

He also revealed that his family plays a major role in keeping him grounded. According to Odule, at home, he is not a celebrity but a father and husband who values giving most of his time and energy to his family.

“Consistency, discipline, and self-discovery are what keep me grounded. Once you know who you are, you can overcome any challenge,” he said.

The actor used the opportunity to advise young entertainers who are just joining the movie industry. He warned that fame can become a trap if not handled with discipline and patience. “If you’re coming into entertainment, be very careful.

Some people get into trouble not because they planned to, but because they got carried away,” he warned.

Odule encouraged upcoming actors to focus on mastering their craft instead of chasing fame or money. “Don’t chase fame or money; chase mastery. Perfect your craft first; the fame and money will follow,” he advised.

Speaking about his education, the actor disclosed that he studied Mass Communication later in life to expand his knowledge and improve his craft. “Acting has always been my calling. I went back to school not to change careers but to improve myself. Education complements experience,” he said.

Dele Odule’s words reflect a blend of traditional wisdom and modern perspective, emphasizing discipline, culture, and self-awareness as the foundation for success in both life and entertainment.
