Controversial social media critic Verydarkman (VDM) has taken a swipe at Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing after she joined the trending ‘Apple Challenge’ — a viral test where users dip their iPhones in water to prove authenticity.
The challenge, initiated by media personality Daddy Freeze, dares iPhone users who claim to have upgraded from an iPhone XR to the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max to submerge their devices to confirm they are genuine. Nkechi Blessing joined the trend to silence critics who doubted the originality of her phone.
In her viral video, Nkechi flaunted her Apple gadgets before immersing her phone in a bowl of water. She claimed she spent ₦3 million on the device and took shots at those allegedly buying refurbished iPhones passed off as new models.
“I am an Apple girl, as you can see... I no go let una disrespect me. It’s different,”
Nkechi declared confidently as she dipped her phone into the water.
However, VDM was not impressed. In response, he posted his own video dipping a modified iPhone XR in water to prove that the stunt does not verify a phone’s authenticity.
“(NO BE BY PUTTING IT IN WATER OR ENTERING WATER WITH THE PHONE OO 😂),”
VDM said mockingly.
“Another demi-god move… At the end, the only power y’all actually have is to keep forcing a false mentality in the minds of an average or less privileged Nigerian.”
VDM further criticised Nigerians who attach self-worth to luxury gadgets, saying they are often fascinated by things considered ordinary abroad. He called for mental liberation and greater self-confidence, urging people to stop glorifying material possessions.
This comes shortly after VDM accused tech entrepreneur Blord of deceiving Nigerians by selling remodelled iPhone XRs as iPhone 17s at inflated prices.
The latest online drama has continued to spark massive reactions, with fans divided over who made the stronger point.
