The highly anticipated Nigerian action drama Son of the Soil has officially shifted its cinema release date from October 31 to November 21, 2025.

Nile Media Entertainment Group announced the change, explaining that the new schedule aligns with the film’s official selection for the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it is set to feature in the closing ceremony.

The film tells the story of a haunted Nigerian ex-commando drawn back into a world of violence after the death of his sister uncovers a murderous drug network destabilizing his community. His mission is clear: justice.

The narrative promises a high-octane mix of suspense, action, and emotional depth, making it one of the most anticipated African action films of the year.

Speaking on the development, Aondofa Shija, Film Business and Data Strategist at Nile Media Entertainment Group, explained the strategic timing. “Once we got confirmation that it had been selected for AFRIFF, we thought it wise to move the release.

We wanted to tie the premiere closely to the event and build on the attention the film has been receiving globally,” Shija said.

Following a successful festival run, including acclaim at the BlackStar International Film Festival and a UK government-backed premiere, Son of the Soil has garnered increasing international recognition.

This momentum has amplified excitement among African cinema enthusiasts, prompting the decision to adjust the release date.

Critics have praised the film for its technical precision, compelling performances, and high production value. Directed by UK-based filmmaker Chee Keong Cheung and shot in Nigeria, the post-production was completed in the United Kingdom, a cross-continental collaboration the producers believe sets a new standard for African filmmaking.

“The technical quality really stands out. From the visuals to the sound design and the cast, everything has been carefully crafted to deliver a world-class cinematic experience,” Shija added.

With the new release date of November 21, Son of the Soil is poised to capitalize on its festival acclaim while reaching cinemas across Africa and beyond. Nile Media Entertainment Group expressed confidence that the timing will amplify the film’s visibility and ensure it reaches the widest possible audience.

Audiences can expect an unforgettable cinematic experience when the ex-commando’s journey unfolds on the big screen, as the film continues to build momentum and cement its status as a benchmark in African action cinema.
