Nigerian music star and member of the famous PSquare duo, Peter Okoye, has responded after a waitress in the United States confronted him in his direct messages over what she called a “small” tip he left after dining at her restaurant.

The singer, who was reportedly in the U.S. for a visit, is said to have spent about $1,000 on his meal. However, the waitress, who served him, later expressed her dissatisfaction with the $60 tip he left behind.

According to the message she sent to him, the woman accused Peter of being stingy and claimed that attitudes like his were part of the reason “many people dislike” him.

In reaction, Peter Okoye shared a screenshot of the message on his Instagram story, expressing surprise at the waitress’s boldness and questioning why anyone would feel entitled to his money.

The award-winning artist made it clear that the situation left him shocked, as he believed no one had the right to dictate how much he should give as a tip after spending his own hard-earned money.

Expressing his frustration, Peter wrote:

“Sometimes eh dis oyibos na them no get sense. Una dey craze for this Yankee I swear for my own money again.”

His response quickly went viral and generated mixed reactions on social media. Many of his fans sided with him, stating that tipping is a personal choice, not a right, and that $60 was a fair amount considering he already paid a large bill.

Some fans argued that service workers in the U.S. often rely on tips due to low hourly wages, but still agreed that customers shouldn’t be shamed or insulted for how much they choose to give. Others pointed out that the waitress’s approach was unprofessional, saying she could have handled her disappointment privately instead of attacking a customer online.

Supporters of the singer also noted that the entitlement displayed in the waitress’s message reflected a wider cultural difference between Nigeria and the U.S., where tipping customs vary greatly.

Peter, who has never shied away from addressing public criticism, stood firm in his stance, describing the situation as an example of misplaced entitlement. He made it clear that his generosity should never be dictated by others’ expectations.
