Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has once again earned continental recognition after being shortlisted for the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the 10-man shortlist on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, featuring some of the biggest names in African football.

Osimhen, who won the prestigious award in 2023, will be looking to reclaim the crown following another remarkable year for both club and country.

His inclusion reaffirms his status as one of Africa’s most consistent and influential footballers in recent years.

The Napoli forward remains a vital figure for Nigeria’s national team, contributing significantly during the ongoing qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His leadership, work rate, and goal-scoring prowess have made him one of the continent’s most admired players.

Other nominees on the 2025 list include Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr, among others.

According to CAF, the award will consider performances between January 6 and October 15, 2025  a period during which Osimhen continued to impress in both domestic and international competitions.

Osimhen’s nomination marks yet another milestone in his football journey, which began in Lagos before he rose to international prominence.

From his breakout performance at the 2015 U-17 World Cup, where he won the Golden Boot, to his record-breaking transfer to Napoli, the Nigerian star has consistently represented African excellence on the global stage.

The 26-year-old striker’s recognition comes at a time when Nigerian football is eager to reclaim its dominance in Africa. His inclusion serves as inspiration to many young Nigerian players striving to make their mark on the international scene.

In 2023, Osimhen became the first Nigerian in 24 years to win the CAF Player of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Nwankwo Kanu. His achievements at Napoli, where he helped the club win their first Serie A title in over three decades, cemented his place among football’s elite.

With the 2025 award ceremony approaching, football fans across Africa will be watching closely to see if Osimhen can once again outshine the competition and bring the title back to Nigeria.

His consistency, professionalism, and passion for the game continue to earn him admiration both at home and abroad.

Osimhen’s journey remains a testament to hard work, resilience, and belief  qualities that have made him a symbol of hope for African football. Whether he reclaims the crown or not, his legacy as one of the continent’s finest strikers is already firmly established.
