Nigerian music superstar, Tiwa Savage, has finally opened up about her long-standing feud with fellow artiste Seyi Shay, offering clarity on the misunderstanding that has trailed them for years.
In a candid interview with Gbemi O and Toolz, Tiwa addressed claims that she was allegedly blocking opportunities for female artistes, insisting she has always been supportive of her colleagues.
Speaking on the origin of the tension, Tiwa revealed that it began after a diss track was released, which sparked rumors about professional rivalries.
However, she denied these allegations, emphasizing her pro-women stance in the industry. “I wouldn’t do that I’m so pro-women,” Tiwa stated, expressing both hurt and confusion over the claims.
She recounted a personal experience that contradicted the accusations. While pregnant with her son, Jamil, Tiwa missed out on a Pepsi endorsement deal, which was later given to Seyi Shay.
She clarified, “When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign, Longer Throat, and Shay was booked on it. Go back and check it, Shay was a brand ambassador, I wasn’t. I was taken off because I couldn’t snap back in time. So how am I stopping other people’s bag? I wasn’t even mad. I got in the gym and got my body back.”
Tiwa also addressed the diss track directly, saying, “If you do something to me, I’ll let you know. I don’t have to let you know online. Like the whole shade thing, I’m not going to pretend like you and I are cool in a salon when you did a diss track.”
She urged clarity on any claims of blocking opportunities, adding, “I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it.”
Despite the tensions, Tiwa appears open to reconciliation. She suggested a personal conversation with Seyi Shay could help clear the air, stating, “That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from.
Till today, maybe I need to have a conversation with Shay.” Her remarks underscore her commitment to honesty and professionalism, signaling a willingness to resolve conflicts directly rather than publicly.
The interview highlights the challenges female artists face in a competitive industry, where misunderstandings and public speculation can distort narratives.
Tiwa’s statements provide a perspective that balances personal experience with professional integrity, challenging rumors while maintaining her image as a supportive figure in the music industry.
As the conversation unfolds, fans and colleagues alike await the possibility of reconciliation between the two artistes. Tiwa Savage’s transparency serves as a reminder of the importance of communication and authenticity in resolving conflicts, particularly in the public eye.
