A delightful mix of humour, emotion, and family drama is set to hit cinemas this November as Grandpa Must Obey, a new Nigerian family-comedy film, prepares for its nationwide release.
The movie promises laughter, warmth, and a touching generational clash, featuring an impressive lineup of Nollywood stars including Kanayo O Kanayo, Bimbo Akintola, and Yvonne Jegede.
Produced by Trino Motion Pictures and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film will make its big-screen debut across cinemas on November 21, 2025.
Grandpa Must Obey tells the story of a 70-year-old man, played by Kanayo O Kanayo, who is forced to take care of his two mischievous grandchildren, portrayed by young actors Darasimi Nadi and Fiyin Asenuga. What begins as a comedic clash between old-school discipline and youthful energy evolves into a touching story about love, forgiveness, and rediscovering family bonds.
Designed with a lively and playful tone, the film captures the chaotic beauty of family life. Described as “grumpy meets mischief, all wrapped in love, chaos, and plenty of heart,” the movie strikes a balance between heartfelt emotion and laugh-out-loud comedy, appealing to audiences of all ages.
Written by Saviour Kings Bob and directed by Chibuzor Afurobi, the film explores themes of generational conflict, healing, and togetherness through a uniquely Nigerian lens. It promises a cinematic experience filled with humour, relatable characters, and a universal message about family.
Producer Uche Okocha explained the creative motivation behind the project, noting that it was inspired by a desire to tell a story that celebrates family and everyday resilience.
“We wanted to tell a story that feels deeply Nigerian but universally human — one that celebrates family, resilience, and the small moments that make life beautiful,” she said.
Okocha added that Grandpa Must Obey reaffirms Trino Motion Pictures’ ongoing commitment to producing films that connect with audiences both at home and abroad.
“Grandpa Must Obey reaffirms Trino Motion Pictures’ reputation for delivering authentic, high-quality Nigerian storytelling that connects with local and global audiences alike,” she said.
She described the film as a perfect fit for the festive season, noting that its blend of humour and heart makes it an ideal watch for families seeking wholesome entertainment.
“Positioned as the family film of the festive season, Grandpa Must Obey is poised to light up cinemas nationwide this November. With its mix of humour, heart, and relatable storytelling, the film is a reminder that sometimes — obeying Grandpa isn’t as easy as it sounds,” she said.
With its vibrant energy, strong performances, and relatable message, Grandpa Must Obey is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated family comedies of the year — a film that celebrates the love, chaos, and laughter that unite generations.
At its core, the film serves as a charming reminder that while family life can be full of disagreements and drama, it is also where the deepest bonds and most meaningful joys are found.
