Filmhouse Group has once again positioned itself at the forefront of Africa’s cinematic evolution by partnering with the Africa Film Finance Forum (AFFF) 2025  a groundbreaking initiative designed to propel the continent’s creative economy to new heights.

The event, held from September 16 to 18 in Lagos, brought together key players in film, finance, and culture to address one pressing question: how can Africa build a $20 billion film industry that serves its 1.4 billion people?

This year’s forum, themed “Pan-African Film Economy: Building a $20 Billion Industry for 1.4 Billion People,” was more than just another industry gathering  it was a declaration of intent.

The partnership between Filmhouse Group, West Africa’s largest cinema and entertainment company, and AFFF underscores a shared vision to institutionalize film financing, improve distribution networks, and strengthen the structural backbone of African storytelling.

Ahead of the main conference, Filmhouse Group co-hosted a pre-cocktail networking event on September 15 in collaboration with the British Council

This session provided a relaxed but strategic setting where filmmakers, investors, and cultural influencers could explore opportunities to bridge creativity with capital. The event also emphasized the importance of sustainable financing for filmmakers who often struggle to secure funding to bring their visions to life.

Speaking on the partnership, Filmhouse Group CEO Kene Okwuosa described it as a strategic move to solidify the future of the continent’s creative sector.

“By collaborating with the Africa Film Finance Forum, we are helping to open new avenues for funding, distribution, and collaboration that will benefit filmmakers and audiences across the continent,” Okwuosa said.

His statement reflects Filmhouse’s long-standing commitment to nurturing a film ecosystem that not only entertains but also creates jobs and drives economic growth.

The forum also saw active participation from FilmOne Entertainment the production and distribution arm of Filmhouse Group. Its Chief Content Officer, Ladun Awobokun, featured prominently in a roundtable discussion titled “From Vision to Viability: What Financiers Need, What Filmmakers Must Deliver.”

Awobokun emphasized the need for African creatives to make films that resonate globally while maintaining authenticity.

“We are committed to championing African storytelling and creating opportunities that amplify our filmmakers on a global scale,” she said. “Partnering with the British Council at AFFF gives us the platform to connect local talent with investors and industry leaders to build a thriving Pan-African film economy.”

AFFF convener Mary Ephraim-Egbas highlighted the urgency of building financial frameworks that match Africa’s cultural strength. “Our stories have always carried immense value, but we haven’t had the structures to unlock their full potential.

What we are doing at AFFF is deliberately aligning creativity with capital and storytelling with strategy,” she explained.

Throughout the three-day summit, discussions focused on financing models, film policy reforms, digital distribution, and international partnerships. The consensus was clear: for African cinema to compete globally, stakeholders must embrace collaboration over competition.

Filmhouse Group’s leadership role at the Africa Film Finance Forum 2025 signals a renewed era for African filmmaking  one rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and economic empowerment.

As the continent continues to attract global attention, initiatives like AFFF demonstrate that Africa’s creative sector is ready not just to tell stories, but to build an industry strong enough to sustain them.
