Music icon Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has called on Nigerian students to leverage their education and skills to drive positive change and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
Obey-Fabiyi made the appeal during the signing-out ceremony for 79 students from the sixth graduating set of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, held on Saturday at the Ebenezer Obey Music and Life Skills Institute, Abeokuta Centre.
The music legend encouraged the graduates to let their achievements reflect values such as discipline, diligence, and service to humanity. He emphasized that the institute was established to empower young people, providing a platform for education, moral guidance, and personal development.
“The centre was created to give back to society by equipping young minds with knowledge and ethical principles. Your success should not only be measured by your academic achievements but also by the positive impact you make on others,” Obey-Fabiyi said.
Also addressing the graduates, Dr. Lateef Mustapha, Director of the Centre for Part-Time and Professional Studies at Al-Hikmah University, described the occasion as a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the pursuit of lifelong learning. He highlighted that higher education extends beyond classroom lessons, encompassing moral discipline, entrepreneurship, and community service.
“True success is measured not just by grades, but by how effectively you contribute to society,” Mustapha said, urging graduates to embrace values that will allow them to make a meaningful difference in their communities.
Professor Sabiru Adesanya, former Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, commended the institute for its contribution to human capacity development and encouraged graduates to act as worthy ambassadors of the institution.
Mr. Adekunle Durosinmi, Director of the Ebenezer Obey Music and Life Skills Institute, described the ceremony as a milestone in the institute’s ongoing quest for excellence. He noted that the growing number of graduates reflects students’ confidence in the centre’s programmes, which combine moral instruction with practical, skill-based learning.
Durosinmi reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to maintaining high standards and expanding opportunities for students seeking both academic and professional advancement.
The graduating class of 79 students included individuals from the departments of Accounting, Computer Science, Business Administration, and Mass Communication, all of whom were celebrated for their dedication and hard work during the programme.
