The award-winning singer, who is also known by his real name, Adekunle Kosoko, shared the exciting news with his millions of fans on Instagram on Monday, October 6, 2025. The 38-year-old artist posted a touching video capturing the unveiling ceremony, attended by his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Deja.
In the clip, the family could be seen pulling back a white veil to reveal the new street sign boldly inscribed with “Adekunle Kosoko Street.” The moment was greeted with cheers and applause from friends, fans, and onlookers who had gathered to celebrate the milestone.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Adekunle Gold wrote in the caption, “Adekunle Kosoko Street. The city that raised me now carries my name. Thank you, Lord, for my many blessings.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing reactions from fans, fellow celebrities, and Lagos residents who hailed the singer for his humility and contributions to the Nigerian music industry.
The honour carries deep historical significance for Adekunle Gold, whose family heritage is deeply rooted in Lagos Island.
He hails from the prestigious Kosoko royal family, which produced Oba Kosoko, the former king of Lagos who ruled between 1845 and 1851. Many have described the gesture as a symbolic “homecoming” for the singer, who has always expressed pride in his Lagosian roots through his music and art.
Adekunle Gold, who rose to fame with his breakout single “Sade” in 2015, has since evolved into one of Nigeria’s most consistent and respected artists. Over the years, he has built a distinct sound blending Afro-pop, highlife, and R&B, with hit songs such as “Orente,” “Okay,” “5 Star,” “High” featuring Davido, and “Party No Dey Stop” featuring Zinoleesky.
The singer’s creative evolution has not gone unnoticed, as he continues to redefine his style and image while maintaining his signature lyrical depth. His recent international collaborations and tours have also expanded his global fanbase, further solidifying his position as one of Africa’s leading contemporary musicians.
Fans and well-wishers have since flooded social media with congratulatory messages, praising Adekunle Gold not just for his musical achievements but also for being a symbol of Lagos pride and perseverance.
A follower on Instagram commented, “From Sade to Adekunle Kosoko Street you’ve come a long way, AG Baby. You deserve this and more.” Another user wrote, “This is what it means to make your city proud. Congratulations, Adekunle Gold!”
The Lagos State government has not officially confirmed who facilitated the street naming, but many speculate that it was done in recognition of the singer’s positive influence and his efforts in promoting the cultural identity of Lagos through music.
Adekunle Gold’s new milestone serves as another testament to how far Nigerian musicians have come, transcending entertainment to become national and cultural icons.
