The Big Brother Naija reality show has built a reputation as one of Africa’s biggest television platforms, not just for its drama and entertainment but also for the strict enforcement of house rules. Over the years, the show has maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward violence, harassment, and repeated misconduct, which has led to the disqualification of several housemates across different seasons.

The most recent case unfolded in Season 10, 2025, when housemate Faith was disqualified following a clash with fellow contestant Sultana during rehearsals for a skincare task. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical altercation that left Sultana nursing a twisted ankle. Big Brother wasted no time in enforcing the rules, sending Faith out of the house immediately. The incident reignited conversations about the show’s disciplinary system and reminded viewers that no level of popularity or fan support can shield a housemate from the consequences of misconduct.

This was not the first time such a disciplinary action shook the reality TV community. In fact, Big Brother Naija has a long history of disqualifications dating back to earlier seasons.

In Season 2, 2017, one of the most controversial cases involved Kemen, who was expelled from the show after being caught on camera inappropriately touching fellow housemate TBoss while she was asleep. The decision sparked widespread debate at the time, but the organisers defended it as necessary to uphold the integrity of the game and to protect housemates from harassment.

The following year, during Season 3 (2018), two contestants, Khloe and K-Brule, made headlines after becoming the first pair of housemates to be disqualified in the same season. Both had accumulated multiple strikes for confrontational and aggressive behaviour, and after crossing the three-strike threshold, Big Brother ordered their immediate removal. Their exit highlighted the importance of self-control in a highly pressurised environment where tempers often flare.

In Season 4 (2019), another unforgettable disqualification occurred when Tacha was removed from the house following a heated physical fight with Mercy Eke. The clash, which involved pushing and hair-pulling, quickly spiraled out of control. While Mercy went on to win the season, Tacha’s controversial exit only added to her fame outside the house, cementing her as one of the most talked-about housemates in Big Brother Naija history.

The pattern continued in Season 5 (2020) with Erica Nlewedim, whose disqualification remains one of the most emotional moments in the show’s history. Erica had received several warnings for breaking house rules, but the final straw came when she launched into a tirade of abusive language directed at fellow contestants, alongside other violations. Big Brother announced her disqualification after what many described as a “night of rage,” a moment that remains unforgettable to fans of the franchise.

Two years later, in Season 7 (2022), Beauty Tukura, a former beauty queen, was disqualified for aggressive behaviour. During an argument, she threw her wig and glasses at a fellow contestant, crossing the line of physical misconduct. Her removal just two weeks into the competition was a shock to viewers, as she had been one of the season’s most promising contestants.

These incidents collectively reinforce Big Brother Naija’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct. While the house thrives on drama, entertainment, and rivalry, the organisers have consistently made it clear that violence, harassment, and aggressive physical behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Over the years, disqualification has become a defining moment in several seasons, shaping both the narratives of the show and the careers of the housemates involved. For some, like Tacha and Erica, disqualification did not end their popularity; instead, it propelled them to greater fame outside the house. For others, it served as a cautionary tale of how quickly fortunes can change in the Big Brother house.

With Faith’s recent removal in Season 10, fans are once again reminded that while the Big Brother Naija platform provides fame, opportunities, and entertainment, it also demands discipline, respect for the rules, and control under pressure. The history of disqualifications stands as proof that the line between stardom and expulsion is razor-thin inside the house.
