The United States has issued a stern warning that Nigerian politicians and government officials implicated in corrupt practices may face restrictions on entering the country.
In a statement shared on its official X page on Monday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasized that the fight against corruption is a global effort, and accountability applies to all, regardless of rank.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US Visas,” the Mission said.
The U.S. has consistently shown support for Nigeria’s anti-corruption measures over the years. In previous instances, visa restrictions were imposed on politicians accused of electoral malpractice and actions that undermined democratic processes.
This latest warning arrives amid growing public concern over alleged mismanagement of state funds and abuse of office at various levels of government in Nigeria.
