Arise TV is mourning the untimely death of its 29-year-old reporter and news anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. The tragedy occurred following an armed robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
According to a family friend, armed robbers had been moving from flat to flat in her apartment complex, targeting residents. Hearing the commotion from her apartment, Somtochukwu reportedly panicked and attempted to escape by jumping out of a window before the robbers reached her flat.
She sustained severe injuries upon hitting the ground. Although the police were eventually called, they reportedly failed to respond promptly. When they arrived, Somtochukwu allegedly begged for urgent medical assistance, but authorities claimed their vehicle had no fuel. Tragically, she passed away before receiving any medical care.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police have launched an investigation into the incident, seeking to uncover the circumstances surrounding the armed robbery and the delayed response by law enforcement.
This incident has sparked nationwide outrage, highlighting ongoing concerns about security in Abuja and the responsiveness of local authorities in emergencies.
