The Emmy Awards Return: Where to Watch Live in Nigeria and What’s at Stake

The countdown to one of television’s biggest nights has begun. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, September 15, 2025, recognising the year’s most outstanding television achievements, from June 2024 through May 2025.

Leading the nominations this year is Apple TV+’s Severance, a corporate dystopian drama that has gripped audiences and critics alike, with 27 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor.

Following closely behind is HBO Max’s The Penguin, a gritty reimagining of Gotham, which scored 24 nominations. In comedy, Apple TV+'s The Studio has made history as the most-nominated freshman comedy series, with 23 nominations, a record previously held by Ted Lasso with 20 nominations in 2021.

For Nigerian audiences, the Primetime Emmys are not just a Hollywood spectacle but a celebration of the very shows we’ve streamed, debated, and loved over the years. It’s a chance to see the global recognition of series that have become part of our viewing culture, from prestige dramas to record-breaking comedies.

The live ceremony will air at 1 am WAT on M-Net (DStv Channel 101), with a prime-time rebroadcast at 8 pm WAT the same day. Viewers can also catch up on DStv Stream or revisit the highlights on Showmax, from red carpet glamour to surprise wins.
