Ada Okafor’s portrayal of Ella in Just Us Girls is nothing short of captivating. From the very first episode, it’s evident that Ella has long harbored feelings for Munachi. But before passing full judgment on her, it’s worth unpacking the layers that make her character so intriguing.

Interestingly, in real life, Ella and Tomiwa—Koyinsola’s supposed fiancé in the series—are actually engaged. That revelation alone adds an extra layer of intrigue to the on-screen drama, making her motivations feel both personal and compelling.

Back to Ella. She is the type of woman who sets her sights on someone and refuses to let anything stand in her way. Her position as Munachi’s personal assistant gave her unparalleled access to her target, and she seized every opportunity to get closer to him. Her strategy wasn’t overtly aggressive toward Munachi himself but rather subtly executed through interactions with Chisom, his sister, both in person and over the phone.

Ella’s intentions didn’t go unnoticed. Jite, with her street-smart instincts, quickly picked up on Ella’s game. What stands out, however, is Koyinsola’s complete obliviousness. Perhaps her demanding career as a doctor in her mother’s hospital left her too stretched to notice the undercurrents around her. With her mother constantly urging her to juggle deadlines, social expectations, and personal ambitions, Koyinsola was perpetually pulled in multiple directions—making her blind to Ella’s maneuvers.

And then we get to the turning point: Ella eventually secures Munachi’s affection. Yet even at this stage, the character doesn’t evolve. She fails to confront her insecurities, pettiness, vindictiveness, and manipulative tendencies. There’s an ever-present tension within her, a sense that she is occupying a space that isn’t entirely hers to claim.

As of Season 4, Episode 3, it’s striking how, despite being so deeply entwined in Munachi’s life, she still struggles to understand him. Munachi is a man deeply loyal and content with his relationship. Yet Ella continuously doubts him, turning into a self-appointed messenger of gossip, scouring media stories about Koyinsola, and broadcasting everything to herself instead of trusting her partner.

Her restlessness whenever Koyinsola’s name appears in positive news pieces highlights a central truth: Ella is always aware, at some level, that she doesn’t rightfully belong in Munachi’s heart. This unease and constant pressure define her character more than her cunning ever could.

At this point, I genuinely hope Munachi sees through the façade and makes a decision that reflects his loyalty and integrity. Ella’s behavior—while engaging to watch—is ultimately undeserving of the love and trust Munachi offers. This is not hate; it’s a critical reflection on a character who fascinates, frustrates, and captivates in equal measure.

Stay tuned as the series progresses—I’ll continue exploring Ella’s journey, her triumphs, and her flaws in upcoming posts.
