The Duchess of Kent, Katharine, has passed away at 92, peacefully at Kensington Palace with her loved ones by her side.
Her death was officially confirmed in a statement shared on the Royal Family’s Instagram page: “Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.”
The statement also paid tribute to the Duchess’s remarkable legacy: “The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organizations with which she was associated, her passion for music, and her empathy for young people.”
A talented musician, the Duchess dedicated more than ten years to teaching music at a primary school in Hull. In 2004, she founded the charity Future Talent, which aims to support music education for children from low-income households.
Beyond her musical and charitable contributions, the Duchess of Kent made history in 1994 when she became the first member of the British royal family in over 300 years to convert to Roman Catholicism.
