Nigerian screen icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has made her directorial debut with the film A Mother’s Love, which premiered at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film was showcased to a diverse international audience at Cinema 5 of the TIFF Lightbox on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
The premiere attracted prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, including the Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board, Dr. Shuaibu Husseini, as well as filmmakers Obi Emelonye, Victor Akande, and Ramsey Nouah.
This debut signifies Omotola’s evolution from a celebrated acting career to presenting her unique storytelling style to a global audience. A Mother’s Love delves into themes of self-discovery, the mother–daughter bond, unresolved grief, resilience, and emotional healing.
Reflecting on the milestone, the 47-year-old actress said the project was also a celebration of her 30-year career. She revealed that she has starred in over 300 films and has previously co-directed and written several projects, marking this as a significant step in her creative journey.
