The Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court has ordered that Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian music star, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga issued the ruling after hearing an application filed by Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer, who wants to confirm Liam’s paternity.
According to court documents, the tests are to be conducted at accredited and recognised medical facilities both in Nigeria and abroad.
Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was named as the respondent in the case, which was filed through the legal representation of Wahab Shittu (SAN).
The application requests that the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Pathologist, or any qualified officer at the Military Hospital, Yaba—where the late singer’s remains are held—collect tissue, hair, or other samples for DNA testing. The samples will then be compared with Liam Aloba’s to establish paternity.
The motion cites provisions under Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2012 and Order 9 Rules 8 and 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.
The case marks a critical step in resolving lingering questions regarding Liam’s paternity and could have implications for the welfare and maintenance of the child.
Further proceedings have been scheduled to continue, with the court insisting that the process is conducted in a secure and accredited setting.
