Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about her personal life, revealing that despite receiving multiple marriage proposals, she has deliberately turned them down because she has not found the right partner.

Speaking in a sit-down interview, the 52-year-old actress emphasized that being unmarried should not be viewed as a failure or a negative in a woman’s life.

“For me not to have found my partner, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, I don’t see it as a negative. I’ve been proposed to many times, and I’ve said no,” Akintola said, stressing the importance of choosing the right partner rather than succumbing to societal pressures.

The actress also addressed the cultural expectation placed on women to marry, highlighting the consequences of rushing into unions for the wrong reasons.

“Did you just marry because people say marry? Look at divorce ratings now in Nigeria, it’s skyrocketing. Some people are married before they leave the reception if the marriage has broken up,” she remarked, cautioning women against making impulsive decisions based on societal judgment rather than personal readiness.

Akintola further shared her perspective on parenting, advocating for equal responsibility between sons and daughters.

“Teach your sons that their body is the temple of God the same way you teach your daughters. As soon as you impregnate a girl, no more school for you, my dear. Go and work and raise your child,” she advised, underlining the need for accountability and gender equality in upbringing.

The actress also addressed online bullying and modern societal pressures, encouraging women to prioritize character and shared growth over wealth when selecting a life partner.

“Don’t focus on rich men. Focus on hardworking men who are ready to grow with you,” she advised, urging women to value partnership, respect, and emotional maturity over materialistic considerations.

Bimbo Akintola’s candid reflections provide a refreshing and empowering perspective for women navigating societal pressures surrounding marriage.

Her stance not only challenges conventional norms but also promotes self-respect, patience, and informed decision-making in relationships.

The interview, published on September 26, 2025, serves as a timely reminder that personal happiness and fulfillment are not dependent on marital status, but on making choices aligned with one’s values and aspirations.
