Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has revealed that the Turkish champions always feel uneasy whenever star striker Victor Osimhen leaves to play for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles forward sustained a foot injury during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday, forcing him off the pitch. The setback rules him out of Tuesday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

Buruk admitted that Osimhen’s absence highlights a recurring worry for Galatasaray whenever their star player is on international duty.

“We are always afraid to send him to the national team,” the Turkish coach told Now Spor, as reported by Habersarikirmizi.

“If there is a problem with Osimhen, we want to send a plane immediately and bring him back to Türkiye. We hope it’s nothing serious.”

The manager recounted receiving the troubling news while having dinner:

“I was at the table when a waiter brought me a phone showing the report about Osimhen. We contacted him immediately and the information was that he has pain in his foot,” Buruk explained.

Osimhen’s unavailability is a significant blow for the Super Eagles, who now face South Africa without their key striker as Nigeria continues its quest for a 2026 World Cup spot.
