Engineer Olalecks Tech has shared behind-the-scenes details of how he constructed the massive pot used by celebrity chef Hilda Baci during her Guinness World Record attempt in Lagos.
On August 24, 2025, Olalecks posted a series of TikTok videos documenting the entire process, from the initial design to the completed pot. He showcased both the construction and finishing stages and demonstrated the vessel’s functionality using six large industrial gas burners designed to heat the six-meter pot.
The videos also highlighted the custom-built pot being transported to Eko Hotels and Suites, the venue for the record attempt.
Baci disclosed that the pot was designed to hold 22,619 litres, though she planned to fill it only up to 80 percent of its capacity. While 200 bags of rice were prepared for the event, the total weight reached just 4,000 kilograms due to scale limitations.
“If you notice when we started, we weighed the pot and we need to weigh every single thing that goes into the pot when we’re done. The goal was that by the time I was done making 5,000 kilogrammes, I was hoping to achieve about 17,000 to 18,000 kilogrammes,” Baci told Newsmem.
She added that the 4,000 kilograms of rice cooked were enough to feed approximately 20,000 people.
The event took an unexpected turn when the enormous pot collapsed while being hoisted for weighing. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
