Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has hinted at a new track inspired by the recent airport incident involving Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM 1.
The controversy began on August 5 when the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) alleged that the 68-year-old singer attempted to board a ValueJet Airlines flight to Lagos with an “unidentified liquid substance.” According to FAAN, KWAM 1 ignored warnings from aviation security (AVSEC) and the flight captain, and spilled alcohol on aviation personnel during an attempt to verify the content of a flask he carried.
In an Instagram video, Portable shared a studio session snippet of the upcoming track, describing the episode as “a display of magic” and suggesting that the pilot tried to undermine KWAM 1’s greatness. He also claimed the Fuji star avoided a “death trap” because of his spiritual strength.
“Aeroplane odabo/ Bami ki Iyami eleko/ Na water no be alcohol/ E ye ma paja fun wa lobo/ Devilman the plane stopper/ Pilot fe pogo/ Ifura ko ogun agba/ Opelope ajesara/ Ibere Mo wa o Ibere Mo wa iku re koja ibere mowa oo/ Idagba soke iku re koja/ Idagba soke,” he sang in a mix of Yoruba and Pidgin.
On Wednesday, TheCable reported that the incident led to the suspension of two ValueJet pilots for alleged mishandling of the situation.
KWAM 1, however, maintained that the flask contained “plain drinking water” provided at the airport lounge and “not alcohol.” On Friday, he expressed regret over the controversy, describing it as “unfortunate” and revealing that he suffers from chronic dehydration, which requires him to stay constantly hydrated on his doctor’s advice.
Despite his statement, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has placed him on an indefinite travel ban pending the outcome of its investigation.
