The First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, has penned a heartfelt tribute to her late son, Gbemiga Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Olu, on the occasion of his posthumous birthday.
DJ Olu, a talented disc jockey and entrepreneur, tragically passed away alongside his friend, Chime Amaechi, on October 7, 2017. He was just 24 years old at the time of his death. Since then, his family, friends, and fans have continued to keep his memory alive.
Marking what would have been his birthday, Mrs. Abiodun took to social media to reflect on the enduring pain of losing her son and the void his absence has left in her life.
In her emotional note, she recalled a conversation from 2017 with someone named Lamissa, who had told her that no matter how happy certain moments in the future might be, they would never feel complete without Gbemiga present.
“2017 October, Lamissa to me, ‘Mummy you know, no matter how happy a situation is for us following this, it will never be complete because Gbemiga will not be there. We have to learn to live with that.’ How right she was at such a sad reality,” Mrs. Abiodun wrote.
She expressed gratitude to God for the blessings in her life but admitted that her happiness is always interrupted by the harsh truth that her son is no longer around to share in the celebrations.
“It is your birthday again, and I am grateful, so grateful to God for many things. Happy too, but my happiness is always interrupted by the jolt of the reality you’re not here to celebrate with us, nor we with you,” she continued.
Despite her strong faith, the Ogun First Lady acknowledged the permanence of her grief, describing it as an “enduring pain.” She reflected on the many questions and imaginings that still fill her mind — how DJ Olu might look today, the plans he had for his future, and the special mother-son moments they once shared.
“Imagining what you would look like, how different my life would have been having you here, all the plans you had for yourself and for me; our precious, very honest moments. Oh, my heart breaks as I write this, and imagine what could have been, but God knows best and allowed things to be this way,” she wrote.
Mrs. Abiodun concluded her message with a loving farewell, assuring her son that he remains deeply cherished.
“My Gbemiga, continue to rest in peace, as we continue to remember you fondly on your birthday, because I know this is what you would have wanted. Love you this birthday, and always.”
Since DJ Olu’s passing, tributes have continued to pour in every year from friends, family, and fans in remembrance of the promising young man whose life was cut short. His legacy, both as a talented entertainer and a beloved son, continues to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
