Content creator and actor Victor Nwaogu, popularly known as Nkubi, and his wife have opened up about the harsh comments and trolling they face online, particularly involving their young daughter.
The couple often feature their daughter in family skit videos to help fans connect with her, but a recent Facebook post, accompanied by a hurtful caption, reignited public criticism.
In an interview with BBC News Pidgin, Nkubi and his wife reflected on their experiences with online harassment. They explained that while they faced criticism in person when they first started dating, the intensity of online bullying has been far greater.
“To protect my mental health, I avoid the comment section,” Nkubi’s wife said, acknowledging the damaging effects of social media.
Despite the negativity, the couple describes their daughter as “a blessing to the family” and emphasizes their determination to give her a bright future while shielding her from the harsher sides of online platforms.
“We wan give our pikin a bright future, we want to make people know her, I don’t want the situation to catch her unaware. Social media amplifies both judgment and hatred. The bullying has been ongoing since we started dating. Some people would taunt us when they see us together, but online bullying is much. To protect my mental health, I avoid the comment section. She is a blessing to the family; she turned our family around,” Nkubi and his wife said.
They also shared plans to expand their family, expressing their desire to have at least one more child while continuing to nurture a happy home amidst the scrutiny of social media.
