Nigerian social commentator, Toyosi Godwin, has once again ignited conversations online following a thought-provoking post on the dynamics of modern relationships among young people. In a series of tweets that have since gone viral, Toyosi criticized the pattern of young men financially sustaining relationships with women who, according to him, show no sense of responsibility.

“I pity young, hustling guys who date young girls and play the role of their fathers. You pay for data, sanitary pads, Netflix, dates, cab fees… all these while she shows no sign of responsibility,” he wrote.

His remarks, laced with both humor and bluntness, did not stop there. Toyosi went further to challenge the financial sacrifices some men make in relationships that, in his view, yield no long-term value. “It’s your money, but you’re foolish. Two truths can exist,” he added, highlighting the irony of men working tirelessly only to exhaust their earnings on women who may not reciprocate the investment.

The commentator argued that many young men are blinded by physical attraction, which makes them vulnerable to manipulation. “You’ll spend all day bussing your ass to earn money, while one leech keeps draining your pocket simply because she has physical attributes nobody else in the world has? Lmao,” Toyosi tweeted, warning that such relationships are often unsustainable. “She’ll leave you when things go down — and trust me, they will.”

Reactions to his post have been mixed. While some social media users applauded him for speaking what they termed “hard truths,” others accused him of generalizing and unfairly labeling young women. The debate has since sparked a wider discussion on gender roles, financial expectations, and the pressures of dating culture in Nigeria.

Toyosi’s remarks reflect a growing conversation about balance and responsibility in relationships, especially in a society where economic struggles often shape romantic choices.
