An Abuja-based lawyer has advised men not to rush into marriage without first attaining financial stability, stressing that money-related problems remain one of the leading causes of marital breakdown.
Speaking on the issue, the lawyer cautioned men against succumbing to societal pressure to marry if they do not yet have a steady income.
“This might sound insensitive but as a guy, if you are not financially stable don’t think of getting married – don’t let society pressure you into marriage,” he said. “It’s better to marry late than to marry as a struggling guy – you’ll see shege.”
He further explained that financial instability often weighs heavier on marriages than even infidelity, with many women more willing to forgive an unfaithful partner than a financially unreliable one.
“One of the leading causes of divorce after infidelity is that the guy is broke; in fact, ladies tolerate a cheating husband more than a broke man,” he noted.
The lawyer, however, clarified that financial stability does not mean excessive wealth, but rather a consistent and dependable income.
“Being financially stable doesn’t mean you’ll have all the money but at least have a solid source of income,” he added.
