Nollywood star Yvonne Jegede has revealed that her unexpected appearance in 2Baba’s classic African Queen music video was never part of her career plan.

Speaking on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, Jegede explained that she never pursued being a video vixen and that her appearance in the iconic 2004 video was purely accidental.

“When the director of African Queen first reached out to me, I just said ‘no, I’m not interested,’” she said. “They were shooting the next morning at 9 a.m., and he told me to let him know if I changed my mind.”

At that point, she said she didn’t even know 2Baba had launched a solo career after his time with the Plantashun Boiz. But everything changed after a random evening conversation with her friend, Michael.

“I was talking to my friend Michael, and I mentioned it casually. I said something like, ‘Someone asked me to come do one funny thing, something called African Queen.’ The moment I said it, he screamed, ‘That song is a hit! You have to do it!’”

Her friend’s excitement was all she needed to reconsider. That same night, she called the director back and decided to join the shoot.

“When I got there and saw Tuface in person, I was like, ‘Wow, this is really happening.’ But even after that, I didn’t want to be seen as a video vixen. I just wanted to act,” Jegede added.

She also shared how she ended up in another well-known video—Djinee’s Ego—saying that was more about helping a friend than building a portfolio.

“The director of Ego was a friend. He also worked with Styl-Plus back then. I was actually supposed to be in their Olufunmi video, but I got stuck in traffic and missed it,” she recalled.

Despite how recognizable her appearances in those videos made her, Jegede made a conscious decision to stay focused on acting.

“No more dancing, no more vixen roles. I just wanted to act,” she said.

Looking back on her career path, she expressed gratitude for how far she’s come.

“It’s been fulfilling, I’m not going to lie. I’ve experienced a lot and I’m still growing.”
