The world of professional wrestling and global pop culture is in mourning following the death of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.

The larger-than-life superstar, born Terry Gene Bollea, passed away at the age of 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida. Emergency responders rushed to the scene early in the morning and attempted to revive him. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Hulk Hogan wasn’t just a wrestler  he was a phenomenon. Rising to fame in the 1980s, Hogan became the face of World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) during a time when the industry was transitioning into mainstream entertainment.

Clad in his iconic red and yellow gear, with bandanas and bulging biceps, Hogan turned into a symbol of American bravado and determination. His signature catchphrase  “Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?”  became a part of pop culture, chanted in living rooms and arenas alike.

Throughout his career, Hogan headlined multiple WrestleMania events and was the central figure in rivalries that defined wrestling’s golden era. His legendary matches with André the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and The Ultimate Warrior remain some of the most unforgettable moments in sports entertainment history.

The image of Hogan body-slamming André the Giant at WrestleMania III remains one of the most iconic scenes in the sport.

Beyond the ring, Hogan expanded his influence into television and film. He starred in Rocky III as Thunderlips, earning praise for his charismatic screen presence.

He went on to appear in several family-friendly action comedies like Suburban Commando and Mr. Nanny, and later allowed fans an intimate look into his life through the VH1 reality series Hogan Knows Best. His appeal transcended wrestling, making him a household name far beyond the squared circle.

Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, a testament to his massive influence and contributions to the business. However, his career wasn’t without controversy.

In 2015, Hogan faced backlash over racist remarks that surfaced online, leading to his temporary removal from the Hall of Fame. After making public apologies and undergoing personal rehabilitation, he was reinstated by WWE in 2020, signaling a path toward redemption.

In his later years, Hogan’s health became a growing concern. Decades of performing high-impact matches had taken a toll on his body, leading to multiple surgeries on his back, neck, and knees. Just weeks before his death, his wife Sky Daily told reporters that he was recovering from a significant neck procedure and had shown promising signs of improvement.

The wrestling world has been deeply shaken by his passing. WWE released an official statement calling Hogan “a once-in-a-generation talent who defined an era and inspired millions around the world.” Fellow wrestlers such as Ric Flair, John Cena, and Triple H have shared heartfelt tributes. Ric Flair posted on X (formerly Twitter): “He was the reason so many of us laced up our boots. I’ve lost a brother.”

Even outside the wrestling universe, Hollywood celebrities like Sylvester Stallone and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have paid tribute. Stallone, who worked with Hogan on Rocky III, wrote: “Hulk was a giant in more ways than one. He made people believe in heroes.”

Hogan is survived by his wife Sky and two children, Brooke and Nick. While his death marks the end of a remarkable chapter in wrestling history, the legacy of Hulkamania remains eternal. His spirit, resilience, and showmanship will live on in the hearts of wrestling fans and entertainers across generations.

As fans remember the man who urged millions to say their prayers and take their vitamins, one thing is certain Hulk Hogan was, and always will be, immortal in the annals of sports entertainment.
