Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has made history by becoming the first African artist to cross 9 billion total streams on Spotify.

The new record reflects the combined performance of all songs credited to the Afrobeats icon, including his solo projects and collaborations with other global stars.

At the top of the list is “One Dance,” the 2016 global hit by Drake featuring Wizkid and Kyla. The song alone has amassed an incredible 3.7 billion streams, making it Wizkid’s most streamed track on the platform and one of the top 10 most played songs in Spotify history.

The track also holds a Guinness World Record as the first song to hit 1 billion streams on the platform.

Among his solo releases, “Essence” featuring Tems stands out with over 303 million streams. The song played a major role in pushing Afrobeats further into the international spotlight, especially following its widespread success in the United States.

While global pop sensation Taylor Swift remains Spotify’s most streamed artist overall with more than 1.5 billion streams in 2024 alone, Wizkid’s latest milestone reinforces his standing as one of Africa’s most successful musical exports.

His growing discography and consistent global influence continue to raise the profile of Afrobeats around the world.
