Nollywood, one of the world’s largest film industries, has seen the rise of exceptional talents who have become national icons through their breakout roles. These stars captured the hearts of millions and went on to become household names. From veterans to new-generation acts, here are some of the top Nollywood stars and the movies that shot them to fame.
Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), one of the most respected names in Nollywood, became widely known through the popular television soap Ripples in 1988. However, it was his role in Out of Bounds (1997) that marked his breakout in film. The romantic drama established RMD as a leading man and ushered him into major roles across Nigerian cinema.
Funke Akindele got her early recognition in the United Nations-backed teenage series I Need to Know (1998), where she played Bisi, a curious and intelligent schoolgirl.
