Media personality Lolo has called out content creators who mock physically challenged individuals in the name of social media trends, saying that “not everything is cruise.”
Taking to her Instagram page, Lolo expressed strong disapproval of a rising trend where skit makers and influencers impersonate or exaggerate the conditions of people living with disabilities for comedic or viral purposes. She warned that such insensitive portrayals, often passed off as humor, are deeply offensive and damaging.
“Everything cannot be for fun and cruise,” Lolo wrote. “This is the permanent reality of some people’s lives. You don’t have to mock what you don’t understand.”
She stressed the need for empathy and responsibility, especially in the content creation space, urging influencers to rethink their approach to entertainment.
According to her, it is unacceptable to build careers and online followership by ridiculing real-life struggles faced by others.
“Some of you are out here mimicking the disabled just to make people laugh, but what you’re doing is not comedy it’s cruelty,” she added. “You think it’s a trend, but for many, it’s their truth.”
Her comments come amid backlash over several viral videos where creators are seen faking limb disabilities or speech impairments to gain sympathy or attention online. Many Nigerians have also condemned the trend, describing it as demeaning and morally wrong.
Lolo’s post has sparked a wider conversation about ethics and sensitivity in digital content creation. Several of her followers and fellow entertainers have echoed her sentiments, calling for respect for people living with disabilities.
As social media continues to influence pop culture and public perception, Lolo’s stand is a reminder that creators have a responsibility to avoid content that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or makes light of others’ suffering.
