The Nigerian cinema landscape continues to sizzle as audiences flock to theatres for a mix of new blockbusters, Nollywood heavyweights, and international thrillers.

For the week of June 27 to July 3, 2025, the box office chart reflects the strength of both fresh arrivals and resilient long-runners that have held audiences spellbound for weeks.

New King of the Road: ‘F1: The Movie’

Revving into the top spot is ‘F1: The Movie’, a high-octane debut that zoomed into cinemas with a roaring ₦56.5 million opening. Its impressive performance knocked out previous front-runners and positioned it as the week’s biggest success, proving the appetite for action-packed, visually stunning storytelling is alive and well.

‘Iyalode’ and ‘Ballerina’ Hold Their Ground

Nollywood’s historical drama ‘Iyalode’ continues to make waves, sitting comfortably at No. 3 with ₦31.2 million in its fourth week and a cumulative haul of ₦275.2 million. Just ahead of it in second place is the visually rich ballet-themed drama ‘Ballerina’, adding ₦33 million to reach ₦217.2 million in three weeks.

Both films have demonstrated staying power, offering audiences compelling storytelling and strong performances.

New Entries & Returning Giants

The horror-tech sequel ‘MEGAN 2.0’ made its debut at No. 4 with a respectable ₦18.8 million, appealing to fans of suspense and futuristic thrillers. Meanwhile, Tom Cruise’s latest mission in ‘MI 8’ continues to bring in numbers, racking up ₦13.9 million in week six for a total of ₦358.3 million, holding the fifth position.

Apocalyptic sequel ‘28 Years Later’ sits at No. 6 with ₦12.5 million, while the action-packed ‘Red Circle’ follows closely with ₦12.1 million in its fourth week, pushing its total to over ₦106.1 million.

Still Trending: Local Favourites

In its eighth week, family fantasy ‘My Mother is A Witch’ shows no signs of disappearing, continuing its run with a total gross of ₦95.1 million, thanks to strong word-of-mouth and steady patronage.

Another new release, indie drama ‘Mending’, enters at No. 9 with ₦7.6 million, creating buzz in niche circles and possibly pointing to growing interest in character-driven local content.

Approaching History: ‘Ori: The Rebirth’

Still in the game at No. 10 is ‘Ori: The Rebirth’, which grossed ₦6.7 million in its ninth week, bringing its cumulative earnings to ₦412.7 million. The film is now inching toward breaking into the all-time highest-grossing films in Nigerian cinema history — a remarkable feat for a locally produced epic.

From global spectacles to indigenous hits, the Nigerian box office remains a battleground for diverse storytelling. With new contenders like F1: The Movie setting the pace and cultural titles like Ori rewriting the history books, the cinema scene continues to thrive — proving once again that Nigerian audiences are as passionate as ever about great films.
