Kayode Peters to Be Honoured in Lagos, London, Toronto as Family Shares Funeral Programme

Nollywood actor, director, and filmmaker Kayode Peters will be laid to rest with a series of ceremonies in Lagos, London, and Toronto, according to an official statement from his family.

Peters, who died last month after a prolonged illness, was a respected force in the entertainment industry, best known for his contributions to popular television series such as Flatmates and Extended Family. His work left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s film and comedy scene, earning him recognition both locally and internationally.

In an emotional Instagram post, his family expressed appreciation for the love and support they’ve received during this difficult time.

“As we prepare to lay our beloved Kayode Peters to rest, from the depths of our hearts, THANK YOU,” the post read.

“In the midst of this heartbreaking loss, your love, prayers, messages, calls, visits, support, and every gesture of kindness have wrapped us in comfort.”

According to the released schedule, a Night of Tribute will first take place in Lagos on July 22. This will be followed by a similar event in London on July 29. The final burial service and interment will be held in Toronto, Canada, on August 2.

The statement continued:

“Upcoming dates and locations of events – Night of Tribute [Lagos] – [22nd July 2025], Night of Tribute [London] – [29th July 2025], Burial Service & Internment [Toronto] – [2nd August 2025].”

Kayode Peters was also celebrated on the international stage. In 2024, he was named Best Director (International) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) for his film Survivors, a recognition that reflected his growing global presence in cinema.

The decision to hold funeral tributes across three countries is a testament to his far-reaching influence and the deep admiration he earned from fans, colleagues, and audiences around the world.
