British-Nigerian rapper and singer, Oluwafisayo Isa, popularly known as Darkoo, has opened up about her desire to become a mother  but with a significant personal caveat.

The UK-based artiste, best known for her hit song Favourite Girl, stated that while she is emotionally and mentally prepared to have children, she does not wish to carry the child in her womb.

Speaking in an interview with Madame Joyce, Darkoo explained that she envisions herself as a nurturing and caring mother, but prefers her partner to take on the physical role of carrying the baby.

“I’m at a phase in my life when I’m thinking about having kids. I feel like I would be a great mom, but I don’t want to carry the baby in my womb. My partner is going to carry it,” she said.

Darkoo stressed that motherhood goes beyond biology. According to her, being a mother is not just about giving birth, but about showing genuine love and care for a child.

Her comments reflect a growing shift in public discussions about parenthood, particularly within LGBTQ+ communities, where traditional roles are being redefined to reflect personal comfort and evolving family structures.

The 22-year-old, who publicly came out as gay in recent years, has been open about her sexuality and its impact on her personal journey.

In 2024, she revealed that disclosing her sexuality to her parents lifted a massive emotional burden. “Opening up to my mom made me feel like I could finally breathe,” she once shared, adding that the acceptance she received helped her become a more authentic version of herself.

Since then, Darkoo has consistently used her platform to speak about identity, relationships, and the importance of living truthfully.

Her music, image, and interviews often highlight her experiences as a queer African woman navigating fame, love, and societal expectations in both the UK and Nigeria two very different cultural landscapes.

Her latest revelation has sparked conversations online, with many applauding her honesty and self-awareness.

Others have expressed admiration for her courage to speak openly about topics still considered taboo in conservative circles.

Darkoo’s stance on not carrying a child herself but being ready for motherhood is part of a broader dialogue on gender roles, surrogacy, and co-parenting in modern relationships.

While some may question her decision, she remains firm in her belief that motherhood is ultimately about presence, love, and emotional availability not just biology.

As she continues to break boundaries in music and personal identity, Darkoo stands as a symbol of unapologetic self-expression.

Her journey continues to inspire many young people navigating similar paths, especially those facing cultural or family pressures around identity and personal choices.

With her music career still on the rise, and her personal voice becoming louder, Darkoo remains a bold and refreshing figure in contemporary African and UK entertainment.
