I Became My Husband's Side Chick" — Bose Alao Opens Up About Her Painful Marital Journey

Nollywood actress Bose Alao has candidly reflected on her turbulent marital journey and the unexpected support she received from fellow actress Iyabo Ojo.

In a heartfelt conversation with colleague Biola Bayo, Bose revealed how her marriage hit a rough patch, leading to a three-year separation from her husband. During this period, she found herself in an unusual position — becoming his side chick.

"My husband and I separated for three good years. I became his side chick to my husband. When someone asked me if I wasn’t done with my marriage, I said no," she revealed. "When a woman is done, she is done."

Bose shared a painful memory of calling her husband and being insulted by another woman on the line. "There was a time I called, and the lady even called me an old taker — something which I sacrificed for my marriage," she recalled.

Reflecting on the emotional toll, Bose admitted that marriage can transform a person in unexpected ways. “You don’t even truly know who you are until you get into marriage. Maybe you’re thinking, ‘I am a very calm person,’ but marriage can bring out something else in you,” she said.

She also opened up about a dark period when she would send nude pictures in exchange for luxury items. "I will send my nude pictures, he has people who collect such, send my pictures to them, then they will give me a designer bag. I will take it to the person, and my money that night will be N700,000," she revealed.

Bose credited Iyabo Ojo with playing a significant role in helping her rebuild her life. She recalled how the actress recognized her talent during a traditional wedding event and later offered her a major opportunity.

"Aunty Iyabo saw me on a job. She said she didn’t know I was good. She told me I would anchor the program once Priscilla was set to get married. There was no Juma then. That job changed a lot of things in my home," she shared.

She added that some of the things she went through were so painful, she wouldn’t wish them on her enemies. “There are some things that I went through that I don’t wish for my enemies.”

The actress’s candid revelations shed light on the emotional challenges women face in marriage, and how unexpected support can lead to healing and transformation.
