In today’s entertainment industry, where versatility should be applauded, skit makers like Nasboi and Broda Shaggi often remain underrated despite their immense contributions to Nigeria’s creative scene. These talented individuals are not just content creators  they are actors, comedians, singers, storytellers, and cultural commentators rolled into one.

They put in as much, if not more, effort as traditional entertainers, yet often don’t get the full recognition or "flowers" they deserve. A close look at Nasboi’s debut album In Nasboi We Trust is all the evidence anyone needs to understand just how multifaceted and impactful these skit makers truly are.

Nasboi, who rose to fame by mimicking Davido’s voice in viral comedy skits, has evolved from a one-dimensional impersonator into a multi-talented entertainer. He is now a serious actor, director, and music artist.

His album In Nasboi We Trust, released in 2024, is a deeply personal, musically rich, and emotionally layered project that deals with love, struggle, hustle, fame, and betrayal. Tracks like “Umbrella” and “Lover Boy” show off his vocal talent, storytelling skills, and emotional depth  far beyond the humorous character we see on Instagram or TikTok.

What makes Nasboi’s work even more commendable is that he doesn't abandon one craft for another. He consistently releases high-quality skits that tackle real societal issues, deliver relatable humor, and entertain fans.

At the same time, he's appearing in Nollywood films, acting with depth and realism, and now producing a full-length music album that can rival mainstream Nigerian music projects. This kind of creative agility should be celebrated, not overlooked.

Similarly, Broda Shaggi has long proven that he’s more than just a man with a wig and funny accent. Behind the viral “Oya hit me” catchphrase is a professionally trained actor and singer who has appeared in blockbuster Nollywood films and released several well-received singles. Like Nasboi, Shaggi blends music, acting, and comedy in a way that makes his work resonate with a broad audience  from street hustlers to corporate elites. And yet, when conversations about Nigeria’s top entertainers come up, skit makers are often dismissed as mere internet comedians.

Part of the problem is the longstanding hierarchy in Nigerian entertainment, where traditional musicians and Nollywood stars receive most of the prestige and media recognition.

Skit making is still seen by many as “internet play” despite the industry generating millions of naira, creating employment, and transforming how Nigerians consume content.

Yet it is these same skit makers who are now shaping culture, setting trends, and using their platforms to speak on mental health, corruption, love, and heartbreak in ways that deeply connect with their audience.

In Nasboi We Trust is a perfect example of how far skit makers have come. The album is not a comedy gimmick  it’s a serious musical project with crisp production, thoughtful lyrics, and features from respected artists. It represents the rebirth of Nasboi as a legitimate artist with something to say and the skill to say it musically.

That leap is not an easy one, especially in an industry quick to box you in based on how you first got famous.

It’s high time platforms, award bodies, and the public begin to see skit makers for what they truly are  multi-hyphenate creatives who are not only entertaining us but also evolving the Nigerian entertainment space. Nasboi, Shaggi, and their peers are bridging gaps between music, film, and comedy in ways that traditional artists often cannot. They are the future  and they deserve their flowers while they can still smell them.
